We ordered these to be sent to a family member that lives 1800 miles from here in the southwest. The temperature has been extrememly hot...well over 100 degrees. Plus, living in a very rural area on a dirt road there's been no way to escape the heat. After reading through a hundred + reviews we decided to purchase 2 of these 'Lasko Wind Machines'. Oh my! The difference was nothing less than extraordinary. We were told all she had to do was plug them in. The difference it made with the children was what all parents desire...for the children to be comfortable, happy, plus able to sleep undisturbed. To simply say THANK YOU is an understatement of vast proportions. Our only regret is that we hadn't thought of this sooner. We definitely recommend THIS brand. I bought one a year ago and it has held up beautifully.I bought it half for how it works and half as a noise machine to drown out the noise of screaming kids next door. It's not loud, it just has the right sound to counter the pitch of the screaming.I am guessing it is an anomoly that the knob did not hold up. It's a tiny little piece of plastic that engages with the spindle that did not hold up. It spun a little when I first bought it. Had I known it was compromised I would have sent it back. Now I can't return it so I will have to figure out what to do about the knob because it won't catch.My model has no remote control. Switch is centered on back of fan very easy to get to. Has 3 speeds. I use high and have two fans set up to move/pull the air from living room air conditioner in living room to bedroom. Works great, very strong air movement. I would buy again and refer this product to friends. Very sturdy, has hand strap on top making it easy to move and can be rotated up or down. Very happy with this product!Really like the mobilityI must have loud white noise to sleep at night. I work at night and I live on a busy street in a generally loud complex, so the fan noise has a lot to drown out. I had a few air king plastic 20 inch fans that sounded like a small plane engine, which was perfect! However, after the first one ran for years until my home was flooded, the replacements died months to a year if they ran at all when they got here. I took a chance on this fan because it is described as a good source of white noise and it is supposed to be durable.This fan produces great white noise on high. I ran it on medium in the winter because it was too cold for high. It produces adequate noise on medium. I can barely hear it on low. On high, it isn't the air plane engine that the air kings were, but it is loud enough to drown out most noise from outside.It also moves a good amount of air. I put it in my hall way to pull air from the back rooms to the front, and it worked really well.The only thing that I don't like about it is the knob. As others have said, it is located on the back of the fan motor instead of the top where most knobs are. You have to move the fan to turn it off if it is parked by a wall.Overall, I like the fan so far.I've repurchased this after my last one finally gave out after 4 years of continuous use! Strong fan and can be loud at the highest setting but I like to use it for white noise. Recommend to anyone who loves a durable/sturdy fan!The last one I had ran it night and day for 3 years never had a problem easy to disassemble and clean.Review after 3 months use.This fan appears that it will last more than a season's use unlike many other fans. The 3 stars I gave it is for it's functionality, build quality. However, cleaning this fan is another story. This fan must be completely disassembled for cleaning. This means a robertson screwdriver, removing the handle, removing the stand, removing the screws holding the 2 halves of fan blade enclosure together. It is major work. This fan is NOT designed for easy disassembly and repeated disassembly will probably wear out the screw holes rendering the fan useless before its time. In retrospect, you may have more luck if you have access to a good air compressor, take the fan outside and blow the dirt off (in this case disassembly may or may not be required).This fan is awesome ! It has 3 speeds has a lot of air flow I have owned one of these for at least five years and it is very reliable and durable ! That is what led me to purchase 2 more of them !!FIrst one I bought for 40 bucks lasted 13 years - My next one for 80 bucks lasted 1 year - I think I hate this fan.
